Why don't libraries smell like bookstores?

I assume you’re referring to the difference between the glorious mustiness of a library and the glorious plasticy newness of a bookstore. That’s probably due to the fact that as paper ages, the cellulose within it decays, letting off that sweet, sweet book smell. Bookstore books haven’t had as much time to decay (unless it’s a used bookstore), leading to that different smell.

The reason they don’t smell the same is because a bookstore, you by the books brand new and at a library you borrowing old books that people have already used.

The reason, possibly, is that library books have the scent of many homes and people; a cornucopia, if you will, of being handled by many. Bookstores books, however, are brand new and for now lack the character of old books.

They don't smell like bookstores because libraries are filled with used books whereas bookstores are filled with fresh books. Hope this helped!

Mariah Carey’s interior designer is making a scale drawing of her shoe closet. The scale in the drawing is 3 inches represents 10 feet. The actual length of her shoe closet is 6,000 square feet! What is the length of her shoe closet on the scale drawing?

Simply, book stores don't carryy hundreds of volumes of older books, which emit that classic "library" smell.

Bookstores *sell* books. That invites a certain class of customer. Libraries are public institutions, so even the unwashed can come in and hang around.

User Avatar

I'm not even sure what to say. A library is technically a bookstore you can buy a book there or check it out. But no matter what you can still lose the book. :I

User Avatar
Anonymous
2020-04-14 00:49:08

because the books haven't been aged and collected with lovely dust thus giving it a different smell than new books. its the same type of deal why new cars smell like used cars. also another reason is that storekeepers use good smells to entice or manipulate people into buying from their store. let's be real who would buy a book from a smelly store? exactly, libraries also aren't making prophet when u take the books home.

User Avatar

User Avatar

I assume is because the libraries have book at are use already and that are checked out so the smell is different than a bookstores. The bookstores have new book and they are no used so the smell is almost like new.
